The Mozambique Parliament has officially recognized and credited the United Nations System in Mozambique for the valuable support provided to ensure the birth of the Law on the Protection of Persons Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWA) against Discrimination and Stigmatization.

January 2009 - In May this 2008, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon joined with staff at UN Headquarters in New York to officially launch UN Cares, the UN system-wide workplace programme on HIV/AIDS. This is now being translated into action in Mozambique by the last years establishment of a UN Cares working group.

JOHANNESBURG (IRIN) - More rains are forecast for Southern Africa into next week, threatening countries already grappling with the impact of recent flooding. Last week, torrential rains hit Mozambique destroying houses, roads and bridge in some provinces.

In response, the UN Country Team in Mozambique has developed an Outline for a National Response to the Rising Food Prices in Mozambique that focuses on enhancing food production and trade and supporting social safety nets.

Senior government representatives from the eight Delivering as One pilot countries gathered in Maputo, Mozambique from May 21-23 to exchange experiences and lessons learned. Hosted by the government of Mozambique, the seminar also included the Co-Chairs of the General Assembly consultations on System-wide Coherence and UN country team members from the pilots and two countries with similar experiences, Malawi and Botswana.
