Who we are:
Since 1946, UNICEF has been the world’s leader for children, working to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. The world’s largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.
UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children.
What we do:
UNICEF has been working in Mozambique since 1975. The 2007-2009 Country Programme of Cooperation between the Government of Mozambique and UNICEF aims to reduce disparities in the well-being of children by ensuring that vulnerable children in the most disadvantaged families and communities progressively realise their rights to survival, development, protection and participation.
The programme supports national efforts in child health and nutrition; basic education; water, sanitation and hygiene; child protection; and social policy, advocacy and communication. Interventions to support children and women affected by AIDS cut across all aspects of the programme.
Where we work:
UNICEF is on the ground in 150 countries. In addition to its country offices, the organisation has eight regional offices as well as a research centre in Florence, a supply operation in Copenhagen and offices in Tokyo and Brussels. UNICEF headquarters are in New York.
